Do you ever feel like you keep going and going because there’s an endless list of things to do and you can’t ever catch up? Like you’re in survival mode – permanently? Like you want to sit down and chill but you feel guilty because you’re wasting precious time that you could be doing something productive.

I feel like that about 90% of the time.

And I know it’s NOT GOOD FOR ME.

So this week I have been focusing on things that help to calm my brain, and help bring some equilibrium back into myself. Here are 5 ways I refresh my spirit.

1 – Give the gift of time to someone you love.

It was my husband’s birthday, and rather than buying presents, I took the day off to spend with him and our daughter. We didn’t do anything terribly exciting – we just spent time together as a family. We chatted, we chilled, and it was so nice to feel like I was relaxing and not worrying endlessly about what needed to get done. Time is precious – and even more precious when spent with loved ones.

2 – Do some colouring.

The adult colouring book craze is in full swing, and for good reason. People are calling it a form of meditation, and I can see why. There’s something about making something colourful and beautiful that just makes your head and your heart feel good. And it’s extra awesome when you sit at the table with your daughter and colour together. Some of my favourites:

3 – Watch something funny.

I don’t watch TV much, but when I feel like watching something funny, I’ll turn to YouTube for clips of some of my favourite funny people, like Jon Stewart, John Oliver (these are my 5 favourite Last Week Tonight moments), Stephen Colbert, or James Corden. Being made to laugh out loud is good for the spirit!

4 – Play a game.

Whether it’s a board game with my daughter like Frozen Operation or Richard Scarry’s Busytown, Eye Found It Game, or a quick round of Disney Tsum Tsum on my phone, playing a game forces my thoughts away from everything I need to do, and into the moment.

5 – Take a deep breath.

It’s cliche, but taking a deep breath really can help me “reset”. It’s even better if I’m inhaling something that helps me feel grounded, like Valor or Grounding essential oil blends, or Frankincense essential oil. (These are my most used essential oils.)

Take a moment today to make sure you refresh your spirit. You will not regret it!
