Cancer Prevention Dirty Dozen via EWG

Cancer. It’s a lot of the reason Juicy Green Mom exists, because of my sister’s battle with it, and my hope for my daughter not to have to battle it. So when Environmental Working Group (EWG) released this Cancer Prevention Dirty Dozen list, I was thrilled to see it for a number of reasons. First, it proves that I’m not crazy for saying we need to avoid these chemicals. Second, it provides an easy way to help raise awareness about how these chemicals really do have an impact on the development of cancer.

What struck me on the list:

2 items on the list, atrazine and organophosphate pesticides, are chemicals used in agriculture.

5 items on the list, Bisphenol A (BPA), Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Phthalates, Diethlyhexyl Phthalate (DEHP) and Nonylphenol, are in plastics we use. (Here’s my post on how to decode plastic codes.)

5 items on the list, PFCs, Phthalates, Diethlyhexyl Phthalate (DEHP), Triclosan and Nonylphenol, can be found in personal care products, cleaning products and home fragrance products (here’s my list of ingredients to avoid in personal care products, and why air fresheners are toxic).

What surprised you on this Cancer Prevention Dirty Dozen List?
