Wherever you are in your journey, there are always opportunities for continuing to detoxify your life. The more I learn about how our health is impacted by our environment and the things we ingest and put on our bodies, the more I realize needs to be done. It can be overwhelming, but if you decide on a few simple things to tackle as a new year’s resolution, by the end of the year, you’ll be another step along the path of green and healthy. Here are some simple ways you can detoxify your life:
1. Start choosing organic produce.
Pesticides are definitely one of the big offenders in terms of ingesting toxins into our bodies. If you aren’t ready to make a full switch over to organic, you can start by avoiding the Dirty Dozen, as recommended by the Environmental Working Group (who test produce every year to see which are the worst offenders, and which are the least). You can download a pdf from their website to print as a wallet card, or an app for your phone so that you always have the list handy when you’re grocery shopping.
2. Start looking at the ingredients on your personal care products.
It can be daunting, but what about choosing 1 or 2 things to change out this year? Take a look at your current body lotion or shampoo and see if there are any toxic ingredients in it (you can find my list of toxins here). If there are, resolve to find a new non-toxic replacement over the year.
3. Get informed.
There really is a wealth of information out there, so why not choose 1 or 2 blogs or organization sites and subscribe to their mailing lists? Organizations like Environmental Defence in Canada, and Healthy Child, Healthy World in the US are doing amazing work to increase awareness about toxins and enforce change. Of course you can also subscribe to my blog and get updates from me on what I’m finding in an effort to detoxify and go green! 🙂 Awareness is the first step to implementing change, so increase your awareness and talk about it with the people around you. You’ll be making a difference.
