Easy DIY Grow Your Own Easter Gifts for Kids

Since my daughter is in school now, every holiday brings a new challenge with it – what to give to her classmates as gifts? I really don’t want to succumb to rampant consumerism, as tempting as it is to get little trinkets with oodles of packaging, all of which adds to too much waste. Since Easter comes with the longing for spring, it seems like the perfect time to think about what might be good for a garden! So I decided on some easy Grow Your Own Easter gifts for kids.

I’m actually pretty impressed with how easy this is to throw together, and how inexpensive it is too! AND very green! WINS all around!

What you need:

I put the peat pellet directly into a jiffy pot to close off the hole at the bottom. Then I printed out my notes (download my free printable!), cut and folded them up and put 2 seeds into it so they were contained like a little pocket. I put this into the jiffy pot on top of the pellet.

I considered using big plastic eggs to put everything in, as it would have the Easter feel to it – but I really hate the fact that plastic eggs contribute to so much waste. So I wanted to use natural materials – to go along with the natural theme of the gift. I LOVE Greenmunch (a local Edmonton company that has amazing sustainable and eco-friendly party supplies and more) so I used the mesh ribbon I’d gotten from them for Christmas gifts ages ago (I used “apple leaf green” and “amber gold”). I love that the ribbon is handmade from natural fibers, and is FAIR TRADE. I tied it all up with baker’s twine.

I think these look very Spring-y and festive, and I’m so excited for my daughter to hand them out to her friends!
