Mesothelioma Awareness Day (MAD)

Today is Mesothelioma Awareness Day (MAD). What is Mesothelioma, you ask?

Mesothelioma is a more rare cancer than others, but it is very aggressive and usually deadly. It’s caused primarily by the inhalation of asbestos fibers. It takes 20 to 50 years to develop, which is why it’s more commonly diagnosed in older individuals. However, even if you don’t think it affects you, you should still make sure to get a test done, to double check that you don’t have it in your home (particularly if you have recently conducted a construction project), there are plenty of companies that can help you, such as this Prodan Construction asbestos testing one, so you won’t have to look too far.

Heather is a 10 year mesothelioma survivor, with a very unique story. She was diagnosed very young at the age of 36, because of her exposure to to asbestos through her father’s work clothing (he worked in construction). She beat the odds and survived to be able to raise her beautiful daughter who was only 3 months old when she was diagnosed.

This is such a beautiful story of survival – and of making motherhood an even more amazing journey.

Cancer of any kind is a bitch, and mesothelioma is especially cruel. But when faced with it, we have to have hope.

With hope, the odds don’t matter.
