Today is Mesothelioma Awareness Day (MAD). What is Mesothelioma, you ask?

Mesothelioma is a more rare cancer than others, but it is very aggressive and usually deadly. It’s caused primarily by the inhalation of asbestos fibers. It takes 20 to 50 years to develop, which is why it’s more commonly diagnosed in older individuals.

Heather is a 10 year mesothelioma survivor, with a very unique story. She was diagnosed very young at the age of 36, because of her exposure to to asbestos through her father’s work clothing (he worked in construction). She beat the odds and survived to be able to raise her beautiful daughter who was only 3 months old when she was diagnosed.

This is such a beautiful story of survival – and of making motherhood an even more amazing journey.

Cancer of any kind is a bitch, and mesothelioma is especially cruel. But when faced with it, we have to have hope.

With hope, the odds don’t matter.
