Rocky Mountain Soap Company at Southgate: a truly Toxin-FREE store

Rocky Mountain Soap Company at southgate a truly toxin free store juicygreenmom

Since I discovered a few Rocky Mountain Soap Company products several years ago, I’ve been really impressed with the company’s commitment to toxin-free body care. Awhile back they started to be even more stringent with their ingredients lists, and are now starting to apply their eco-conscious, toxin-free philosophy to their physical retail stores. I got to hear from co-owner Karina Birch herself about how they created the redone Southgate Centre location with all reused, reclaimed, recyclable and compostable materials, all down to the adhesives and signage.

I love this chandelier made with repurposed glass bottles that hangs over the cash register!

There are little signs around the store explaining about the source of materials.

“The stains and paints we used in this store contain no VOCs.”

“All shelving is made out of reclaimed barn-wood and old cedar decking.”

“All the signage was made from reclaimed cedar or bamboo.”

“This tile backsplash is made from recycled glass.”

Even the shopping baskets are wicker and fabric – no plastic baskets here!

I love that you can see the big slabs of soaps stored underneath.

  1. I wish we had this type of store over here. The closest thing is Lush but then that’s all shipped over from the UK.

    • I’ve heard some iffy things about ingredients with Lush as well, which makes sense to me because I do find the fragrances there irritating. Not so with Rocky Mountain Soap Company. Maybe you will need to start one! 🙂

  2. I adore Rocky Mountain Soap Co., too. I wish I could visit their stores but they’re not in Toronto yet. I love how there are completely dedicated to their toxic-free movement. I spoke with their marketing team over the winter and they told me they even had a worm compost in the staff room kitchen! That’s dedication!

    • Isn’t that amazing? They really walk the talk, which is so refreshing and wonderful! Thankfully you can still order online until they open in Toronto!
