SPUD Edmonton REVIEW: Roast Beef Dinner Kit

SPUD Edmonton Roast Beef Dinner Kit

I’ve been a longtime user of The Organic Box in Edmonton, when it was the first produce delivery service of its kind. It’s exciting to see the growth in the industry of good quality food delivery, and see some other companies joining the market. One company is SPUD, which has local delivery services in a few different Canadian cities, including Edmonton.

SPUD offers organic and local produce and groceries. Depending on your location, you’re assigned a specific delivery day, and you can change or cancel your order anytime until 3pm the day before your delivery day. Your order is delivered in a reusable bin that is picked up the next time you have a delivery. There’s no contract or subscription, so if you don’t want to order something, you don’t have to.

SPUD delivers in Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Victoria.

SPUD has some neat meal kit options so you can actually get all the ingredients for a specific meal in a delivery. Neat, right? Definitely helpful for meal planning! I had the opportunity to try the Roast Beef Dinner kit, which included:

  • inside round grass-fed roast – 2 lbs (Top Grass Cattle Co, Calgary AB)
  • organic carrots – 1 lb (Similkameen River Organics, BC)
  • portabella mushrooms – 2 caps (Signature Mushrooms, Ardrossan AB)
  • russet potatoes – 2 lbs (Forest Scene Farm, Thorsby AB)

I also ordered some baby dill to add to my meal because I love making dill roast potatoes.

I decided to use my Instant Pot to do the roast beef with the carrots and mushrooms, because I love how it makes moist and tender meat. I did the dill roast potatoes in the oven so I could get some crispiness to them.

Here’s a quick video on how I put it together.

So how did it all taste? Awesome! All the ingredients I got were in very good condition, and very fresh. The beef roast came with a dry ice pack to keep it cold. It was a great healthy and delicious meal! And comforting to know that all the ingredients were grown close to home.

I will definitely be continuing to try different kits from SPUD to supplement my bi-weekly Organic Box deliveries. I’m excited that there are now 2 awesome grocery delivery services in Edmonton – both with great options and commitment to sourcing as local as possible.

What meal kit would you try from SPUD.ca?

(Disclosure: I received the roast beef meal kit at no cost from SPUD Edmonton in order to facilitate this review. No other compensation was received. All opinions expressed are my own.)
