We’ve had some hot summer days already in Edmonton. We basically skipped directly from winter to spring, so it’s time to dig out the sunscreen. Every year I hear people asking the same question, “What is the best non toxic sunscreen?”
I still go back to my favourites: Devita Solar Protective Moisturizer for facial sunscreen, and Goddess Garden Kids Natural Sunscreen for the body (our whole family uses both!). For things you should consider when choosing a sunscreen, read my post here.
There are lots of choices nowadays, and it might be confusing to read through all the ingredients. Environmental Working Group (EWG) is wonderful about providing resources for making it easy, so you can check out their annual Guide to Sunscreens here. You can search for specific products, or use the resource to find the one that fits your function. It doesn’t have all the Canadian brands though, primarily US brands.
I’ve started using Brush on Block from Costco, as it is really easy for my daughter to apply by herself, and super lightweight. It’s a powder mineral sunscreen with SPF 30 and I love how easy it goes on, leaving barely a trace at all. You can also get it from Amazon, and they have refills available too!
I also really like local Canadian Rocky Mountain Soap Company’s Vanilla Coconut Natural Sunscreen – it smells SOOOO divine! AND it goes on totally sheer – not white.
What’s the best non toxic sunscreen you have used?
