EcoQube Frame: Growing MicroGreens

I was really excited to start using my EcoQube Frames to start growing microgreens! (This was my first post about what they are, and how they work.)

It’s harder to find seeds in stores this time of year, so I ordered some online from Rainbow Seeds. I purchased sprouting and microgreen seeds – Broccoli, Dill, Arugula, and Kale.

The EcoQube Frame comes with tools to make planting the seeds as easy as possible. You use the black seed loader to put over one of the slots of the seed pads so the seeds don’t get everywhere. The measuring spoon gets the right amount of seeds for you to spread out over one slot. You do this for each slot, then put the plastic cover over it so they don’t spill out while you slide it into the frame. Easy peasy! (Full instructions can be found here.)

I filled the bottom water reservoir to the max line, put in my seed pads, and waited! So… here is how my seeds fared.

I was amazed at how quickly the arugula started to sprout!!

Ooh, everything is sprouting! The dill is the slowest, but something is happening there! I could probably even harvest the arugula at Day 7!

Note: The white fuzzy stuff you see are root hairs! Not mold! When growing in soil, you typically wouldn’t see them because they’d be hidden. In this hydroponic wick system, they’re just more visible.

I think I could have definitely harvested the arugula and broccoli at Day 10! The kale was good to go at Day 12. I let the dill grow for a few more days after this and it did pretty well.(I had previously tried regular dill, not microgreen dill, and that was a bust because dill grows so tall and thin. But this microgreen variety did great!)

I really am impressed with how quickly my plants came along – all I had to do was make sure the water reservoir wasn’t empty. I probably filled it once or twice over the 12 days after the initial fill. So easy and low maintenance. Now I just load new seed pads and start again for another harvest in less than 2 weeks!

I am loving my EcoQube Frames so much! I get comments on how gorgeous they are as decor, I’m improving my air quality by growing plants, AND I can grow nutritionally dense microgreens in a tiny space. Pretty awesome!

What do you think of the EcoQube Frame?

to talk about this matter here on your internet site.
