Stress. It affects all of us. Everyone has different ways of dealing with it. Everyday stress of trying to get through life. Crazy stress from tragedies, grief, and the curveballs life throws at us. Since the tragic events surrounding my baby nephew’s death, I have been dousing myself in essential oils for stress relief. I don’t know if they work for everyone, but they have made a difference for me.
These are my favourite essential oils for stress relief:
1 – Stress Away
The scent of Young Living’s Stress Away blend is soooo refreshing. The lime and vanilla really stand out and smell delicious.
Ingredients: Lime essential oil (Citrus aurantifolia – Ripe fruit peel), Cedarwood essential oil (Cedrus atlantica – Wood), Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia – Herb top flowering, Copaifera reticulata balsam essential oil, Vanilla planifolia fruit extract, Ocotea quixos leaf essential oil
2 – Peace & Calming
This is one of the first Young Living blends I fell in love with, after Thieves. It is also one of my daughter’s absolute favourites. I have a Peace & Calming roll-on in her room that she requests most nights before bed, and especially if she’s feeling anxious. I love diffusing it before going to sleep, and keep a roll-on in my purse as well.
Ingredients: Orange essential oil (Citrus sinensis – Fruit), Ylang Ylang essential oil (Cananga odorata – Flower), Citrus reticulata (Tangerine) peel essential oil, Pogostemon cablin leaf essential oil, Tanacetum annuum (Tansy) essential oil
3 – Deep Relief
This is another blend I carry with me at all times, and keep on my nightstand. I use it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. (FYI, it’s also shown to help with colds and coughs, and relieves digestive discomfort.)
Ingredients: Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita – Twig flowering), Caprylic/ capric triglyceride, Citrus limon peel essential oil, Abies balsamea needle essential oil, Eugenia caryophyllus (clove) bud essential oil, Copaifera reticulate balsam essential oil, Coconut oil, Gaultheria procumbens (Wintergreen) essential oil, Helichrysum italicaum flower oil, Vetiveria zizanoides root essential oil, Hyptis suaveolens seed oil
4 – Spearmint
Spearmint is one of my newer favourites – its minty aroma has been shown to help relieve headaches, help with digestive discomfort, and reduce the symptoms of cold & cough. AND it’s great for calming and relaxation. It’s a powerhouse essential oil, and a very affordable one as well!
5 – AromaEase
This is another powerhouse essential oil blend. Not only is it calming, it can also help relieve joint and muscle pain associated with sprains, strains and rheumatoid arthritis. It also help relieve symptoms of digestive discomfort, and help relieve colds and coughs. It has spearmint in it as well as cardamom – a lovely scent indeed!
Ingredients: Peppermint essential oil (Mentha x piperita – Twig flowering), Spearmint essential oil, Ginger essential oil, Cardamom essential oil, Foeniculum vulgare (Fennel) essential oil
6 – Cedarwood
I remember someone telling me that her kids slept perfectly when staying in a cabin that smelled like cedar. So when I’m really needing to wind down, I’ll diffuse cedarwood essential oil and let it take over my senses. Cedarwood is also great for reducing symptoms of a cold or cough, reducing symptoms of acne, relieving joint or muscle pain associated with sprains, strains & rheumatoid arthritis, or relieving minor skin irritations.
