As a kid, I always remember having a special stuffed toy that was my favourite to hug to sleep. As a parent, I see the same in my daughter – her favourite stuffed characters provide comfort to her at night, and allow her to act out whatever is in her imagination during the day. The only problem is that the vast majority of stuffed toys are made with materials that may not be so great for our kids if you’re trying to avoid toxins.
That’s why I was so excited when I found out about cuddle+kind.
cuddle+kind was started by a family of 5 in Ontario, on a mission to help feed children in need. The Woodgate family wanted to find a creative way to contribute to feeding hungry children around the world. They’ve developed 9 hand knit natural cotton dolls that are made by artisans in Peru. For each doll purchased, they will be able to provide 10 meals to hungry children through their giving partners, World Food Program USA and Children’s Hunger Fund. How cool is that??
I have always had a passion for social justice – long before I started living green. I have to admit that I got discouraged because it seemed so overwhelming – the poverty and hunger in our world is easily ignored when we are caught up in our first world problems.
So this project really speaks to me, because this family is truly taking action to make a difference. Not only that, but the dolls are so so so adorable!!
AND they are made with non-toxic materials so it truly is a win for everyone!
cuddle+kind have launched an Indiegogo campaign so that you can be a part of this amazing movement. The campaign runs until October 17, 2015, so make sure you get on there to pre-order and get some extra perks!
cuddle+kind‘s online store is now up and running – you can get your dolls and prints now!
I’m really excited to get a doll for my daughter – I think she will love Isla, the mermaid on the very left whose inspirational quote is “Throw kindness around like confetti.”
